ManyPets

Bought By Many, the sister company of ManyPets, launched in the United Kingdom in 2012 and quickly started looking for ways to improve the insurance industry, including the way that pet owners can protect themselves and their furry friends from the financial loss caused by unexpected illnesses, injuries, and more. ManyPets was launched in Sweden in 2019, and within two years, the company started offering pet insurance to pet owners in the United States.

Underwritten by Accredited Security and Casualty Company, ManyPets is now offered in 18 states, and the company has been vocal about the fact that they plan on adding more states sooner than later. If you’re looking for an insurance policy for your four-legged family member, ManyPets may be the right choice for you.

What’s Covered by ManyPets Pet Insurance?

When looking for an insurance plan for you and your family, you should do so with the understanding that there will be some coverage options that are part of the policy, while there are some aspects that aren’t covered. Pet insurance is no different. Before making the decision to sign up for ManyPets Pet Insurance, please see below for what is covered:

  • Illnesses ranging from minor ear infections to cancer
  • Accidents including broken bones or the consumption of poisonous substances
  • The cost of prescription medications
  • The cost of examinations and consultations
  • Treatments including chiropractic care and acupuncture
  • Surgeries, whether they are routine or emergency
  • Lab work
  • Supplies that are deemed medically necessary by a veterinarian
  • MRIs
  • X-rays
  • Hospitalizations
  • Blood tests

What Can I Add to My ManyPets Pet Insurance Policy?

There are multiple options available with the ManyPets base plans for you to choose from. Those plans cover a wide array of services, which are outlined above. However, ManyPets also gives policyholders the option to add preventative and routine care coverage to their policy for an additional cost. While these add-ons increase the cost of the base packages, they do allow you to take advantage of more health-related services for your pet. The add-on options include:

  • Routine vaccinations including those that prevent rabies and Bordetella
  • Wellness exams
  • Dental cleanings
  • Preventative medication and treatment designed to prevent fleas, ticks, and heartworms
  • Holistic care options, including supplements and other holistic treatments that are used for stress, anxiety, skin, coat, bone, and joint-care

What Isn’t Covered by ManyPets Pet Insurance?

Unfortunately, every insurance policy has a list of excluded items. Whether you’re shopping the insurance market for a plan for yourself, your family, or your pet, it’s important to consider all the things that won’t be covered by your insurance provider. While ManyPets Pet Insurance covers a wide array of treatments, preventative services and more, there are certain things that they do not cover.

Some of ManyPets’ excluded expenses are listed below:

  • Surgeries that are considered elective or cosmetic in nature
  • Preexisting conditions, such as illnesses and injuries that occurred before the policy took effect, except for illnesses that have not caused any symptoms and have not received any treatment for the previous 18 months
  • Behavioral therapy or medication
  • Any medications or treatments that have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration
  • Boarding services
  • Grooming services
  • Daycare services
  • Prescription diet

It’s also important to note that wellness exams, vaccinations, and other preventative measures are not covered unless you purchase the additional coverage mentioned above.

What Are the Waiting Periods for ManyPets Insurance Coverage?

There are many similarities between insurance coverage for humans and pets, including the waiting periods that different policies have in place for different types of coverage. The waiting period is the amount of time that you must wait for coverage to begin. Different types of insurance claims have different waiting periods.

ManyPets’ waiting periods for different claim types are broken down as follows:

  • 15-day waiting period for accidents
  • 15-day waiting period for illnesses
  • 6-month waiting period for orthopedic conditions

The 6-month waiting period for orthopedic conditions can potentially be circumvented. If you have your vet perform an orthopedic examination on your pet and the pet passes, you can have the waiting period for orthopedic conditions reduced from 6 months to 14 days.

The 15-day waiting period for illnesses is on par with the other major players in the pet insurance industry. Unfortunately, the 15-day waiting period for accidents is a bit higher than some others, as there are other pet insurance companies that make policyholders wait two days to receive coverage for accidents. Since accidents are not planned, having a shorter waiting period can give you peace of mind.

The only way to get shorter turnaround times for accidents and illnesses with ManyPets is if you’re switching from another pet insurance provider. In those cases, ManyPets waives their standard waiting period and allows you to start accessing your coverage within 24 hours. This feature is unique to ManyPets, as there are no other pet insurance providers that allow you to change companies and start receiving accident and illness coverage within 24 hours.

Insurance Coverage Levels with ManyPets

The details associated with your pet insurance policy are extremely important. While it’s crucial to understand what’s covered and what’s not covered, the financial details associated with your plan can impact whether you sign up for ManyPets. Here is a look at the coverage levels offered by ManyPets.

Maximum Annual Limit

Most insurance companies have a predetermined amount that serves as the maximum amount that they will spend within a fiscal year. This is true of insurance policies that protect people, pets, homes, vehicles, and virtually anything else that can be insured. ManyPets is ahead of the rest of the industry in this area, as they do not have any annual coverage limits, meaning you never have to worry about whether your pet can receive the medical help that he or she needs.

Deductible Options

A deductible is the amount that you must pay out of pocket before your insurance policy takes effect.

There are three different deductible levels offered by ManyPets which are as follows:

  • $100
  • $250
  • $500

Reimbursement Options

The amount of money that you can receive from your insurance company for reimbursements can vary based on the coverage level that you elect.

ManyPets offers three levels of reimbursement:

  • 80%
  • 90%
  • 100%

ManyPets is the only pet insurance company in the industry that provides policyholders with the option of being reimbursed for 100% of the expenses that they have accrued while taking care of their pets.

Conclusion

ManyPets is a great option for pet owners who want to provide advanced care for their furry family members. They are currently the only company that provides 100% reimbursement rates for policyholders. However, as of right now, ManyPets is only offered in 18 states, meaning that you can only obtain the coverage if you live in one of those states. Additionally, the waiting periods, especially those associated with the coverage for accidents, are longer than some other companies in the industry.

As is the case with any type of insurance, you should spend time researching the different policy offerings provided by ManyPets before deciding. You are the expert of the healthcare needs of your pets and your own financial capabilities.
