COMPAREPETINSURANCE.COM PRIVACY POLICY

THIS PRIVACY POLICY STATEMENT (“Statement”) describes how ComparePetInsurance.com (“CPI”) collects and uses the personal information You (“You”) provide on CPI’s website, www.comparepetinsurance.com (“Site”). This Statement also describes the choices available to You regarding CPI’s use of Your personal information and how You can access and update this information.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

CPI automatically gathers information about Your computer such as Your IP address, browser type, referring/exit pages, and operating system when you access the Site. For all other types of personal information, CPI only collects it from you when you voluntarily provide it to us—such as when you contact customer service or leave us a review that includes personal information.  Categories of personal information you may provide to CPI include the following: name, email address, mailing address, and/or telephone number, and information about Your pet, its breed and age.   CPI may use this information to respond to customer service requests and/or other related matters.

Sharing Personal Information

CPI may disclose Your personal information in the following situations: i) as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process; ii) in the event CPI believes in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect its rights, protect Your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request, and; iii) to any third-party with Your prior consent to do so.  In the event CPI is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of all or a portion of its assets, You will be notified via email and/or prominent notice on the website of any change in ownership or uses of Your personal information, as well as any choices You may have regarding the implementation and/or use of Your personal information.

Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies

CPI may use cookies, for example, to keep track of Your preferences and profile information. Cookies are also used to collect general usage and volume statistical information, that do not include personal information.  Further, the Site contains electronic images known as web-beacons (sometimes called single-pixel gifs) and are used along with cookies to compile aggregated statistics to analyze how the Site is used and may be used in some of CPI’s emails to let CPI know which emails and links have been opened by recipients. This allows CPI to gauge the effectiveness of CPI’s customer communications and marketing campaigns.  The Site may also contain web-beacons that are set by CPI’s third-party partners, which allows CPI’s partners to compile aggregated statistics to analyze how the Site is used.  Additionally, CPI may use a third-party to gather information about how You and others use the Site. For example, CPI will know how many users access a specific page and which links the users clicked on.  CPI uses this aggregated information to understand and optimize how the Site is used.

Links to Other Websites

The Site includes links to other websites, including those of Providers, whose privacy practices may differ from those of CPI. If You submit personal information to any of those websites, Your information is governed by their privacy policy. We encourage You to carefully read the privacy policy of any website You visit.

Security

The security of Your personal information is important to CPI. CPI follows generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to CPI, both during transmission and once CPI receives it. No method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage, is one hundred percent (100%) secure. Therefore, CPI cannot guarantee the absolute security of Your personal information.  CPI will retain Your information for as long as Your account is active or as needed to provide You services.  Further, CPI will retain and use Your information as necessary to comply with CPI’s legal obligations, resolve disputes and/or enforce CPI’s agreements.

Sales

CPI does not sell the personal information of users of the Site and has not done so in the past 12 months.

Additional Statement Information

The Site includes widgets, which are interactive mini-programs, that run on the  Site to provide specific services from another company (e.g. displaying the news, opinions, music, etc). Personal information, such as Your email address, may be collected through the widget. Cookies may also be set by the widget to enable it to function properly. Information collected by this widget is governed by the privacy policy of the company that created it.  As well, the Site may offer publicly accessible blogs or community forums. You should be aware that any information You provide in these areas may be read, collected and used by others who access them.

Children’s Privacy

This Paragraph applies to human children, not pets. CPI will never knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. If CPI learns that it has collected personal information from a child under the age of 13, that information will be immediately deleted from CPI’s database. Because CPI does not collect such information, CPI has no such information to use or to disclose to Third Parties. CPI has designed this policy in order to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
